I think this is the electric choke it does look a little rustySounds like the choke is opening too soon or not working. Probably an electric... Can you post a pict?

lolOnly when its cold? When it's warmed up no acceleration problem, runs fine, idle smooth, etc. ?????
If so check/adjust the choke. Hopefully the previous owner hasn't screwed with it or messed up any of the linkage to badly.
Worst case, carb kit and junkyard trip to locate missing/damged linkage.

with a manual choke?Easiest fix would be a new Eldebrock carb, for reliability and ease of repair.
what language is this... it is a 1984 f150 with 302 and auto trans.. would that be on the plate under the hood..Hang on a minute.... is this the EEC-IV 302?????
