F150 Transmission Malfunction

Research the hell out of it on the ford forums before even thinking about taking it to a transmission shop.

I’ve had great luck on the for truck forums.

Do you have a wrench light come on? If so its in limp mode: It will idle but puts itself in enutral and you can't rev the engine. In my case it was the intake mamifold causing an area. i replaced it and moved on. But it could be a number of reasons..

is this a 4.6 or 5.4?

Thought my '06 had a transmission problem, turned out to be a coil pack.

Same thing on my old '05 F150. I thought my transmission was going bad, had the light come on and took it to a shop. They scanned it and said transmission is fine, it's your coil pack. Problem went away after replacing it. But they all end up failing once you fix one so I had them all done with plugs/wires too.

I’ve seen that, mine turned out to be the MAF mass air flow sensor causing the transmission to shift funny. Much cheaper than a transmission rebuild

It’s often the throttle position sensor or the mass air flow sensor

One of the podcasts I listen to “under the hood “ had this exact call .

It’s a radio show from South Dakota , so it’s lots of farmers and rural folks calling in asking questions about their 98 Buick or their 93 suburban etc
