I am going to toss a boston butt on the smoker today, normally I put a mustard/dry rub mix on them. To me, the rubs seem to over power the taste of the meat. Dose anyone somke'em naked? I have eaten some pulled pork at some bbq joints and they did not appear to use a rub and was tasty.

Rub. Typically the night before, wrap in plastics wrap, and put in fridge.
I don't get to crazy with the amount of rub..

Bass Akwards Bass Akwards Try using a dry rub that's not so overpowering with taste. I use a dry rub mainly to give a good crust to the meat. I use the flavored wood to smoke in the taste I'm looking for. I'm actually smoking a brisket today and this is the standard dry rub I use.
