Pre-covid Glocks

I was told that I was posting "too many deals from the same retailer". My response was, its the STEALS AND DEALS section. Not my fault that the same dealer publishes their deals several times a week.

I was told that if I wanted to do that, that I would have to myself become a dealer on this site. Basically, the mods were citing some obscure rule to "make it fit"... I was told it was the quantity, that they had a problem with... that if I wanted to post A deal, that was fine.

So the next day, I posted A deal, to a Glock 19 Gen5 for $517 new.

The mods took that down as well.

Draw your own conclusions, but it's clear what they are doing, and why... We all know it. But nobody wants to admit it out of fear of them getting banned.

I got a warning from a mod yesterday, for being CALLED a name. I didn't call someone a name, they called ME a name. I got a warning for "being rude to another member"... Being called a name, is now an "offense". It's nuttier than squirrel turds lately...

got a point for complimenting a rifle bag for sale..."being rude to another member"

I swapped from a Glock 34 to a X5 legion fall 2019 (like new, bought on ODT, $700). Sold all my Glocks and bought a 365xl to carry ($500ish, new, black friday 2019).

I can look back, but I am 99% certain I sold my (all gen5's) 34, 19X, and 45 for less than $500, and my 17MOS and 19MOS for $500 or a tad over. Who would have known that if I would have waited another 8-10 months I could have listed them for $200 over what I paid. But if I had a crystal ball I would be on a yacht and not on ODT right now.

For the record - I completely support the right to buy and sell as you please. You arent "price gouging", no one is forced to buy anything on ODT. Go play in the stock market, you can make way more money than being a prick on ODT, and no one will see your listings and think you're a clown.

In a technical sense, you are correct. Nobody is forced to do anything.

I think what it all comes down to are that a lot of us, just don't like what ODT has become. It used to be a place where members were more civil, there were deals to be had, and people were much more fair and realistic in their dealings. You went here, because you could deal with someone without the hassle of waiting in line or paperwork, AND, you saved a few bucks while you did so.

Now, it's Craigslist for guns. Everyone is just trying to cash in on the "market", and it's running prices up to the point that places like Adventure Outdoors, are now usually cheaper by a hefty margin. That has a lot of us bummed out and frankly, frustrated... ODT has changed, and done so at a much larger pace than the market at large... I keep seeing new guns at dealers, for HUNDREDS less than I see them here.

I just sold a LNIB Hellcat FDE with box and docs, holster and an extra 13 round mag, for $500 2 days ago. That same day, there is someone else listing the identical gun but in the lower priced black color with no holster or extra mag, for $900. Should he be allowed to? Of course. But only an idiot would look at that price and think that the person isn't just trying to find a buyer stupid enough to pay that. And if it was the exception, most of us would just chuckle and move on...

But it's rapidly become the "new normal"... and this new normal, isn't good IMHO. There is no way to stop it, there is nothing that we should do to enforce price controls or anything like that, other than perhaps use a consumer's voice as a way to influence market prices, like we do in every other aspect of a free market...

But what we shouldn't be doing, is defending, endorsing or otherwise encouraging that sort of nonsense. While we might not be able to stop it, we don't have to freaking promote it either...

It's like trying to sell Socialism, by calling it "Democratic Socialism"...

A **** sandwich is a **** sandwich, and putting "zesty" in front of it, doesn't make it taste any better. One extreme is price controls, and not a single person has asked or called for that. Nobody.

But, there is a range in between that extreme, and the other, which is to openly embrace and promote $900 used Glocks and other nonsense. There should be some middle ground, where common sense could prevail... The problem is that the people profiting off the nonsense, don't want to hear any of that. To do so, would cut into profits, so its in their best interests to not upset the apple cart and keep things as they are... Good for them, but not so much for the consumers...

This place like all other purchase options IMO follow the same rule : Caveat emptor

"So, you can buy a brand new G 19 for $540"

No, you can't.

There is tax, which is not insignificant. You may have to go back because the "computers were down", and you may get denied because....goobement.

There is no tax or other stuff on an ODT purchase, and that is important to some folks.

You can buy it for that. My G19 Gen4, was $478 plus tax. Last week, a Gen5 G19 for $517 plus tax. That's $511 and $553 respectively.

Those same guns are usually $700+ here.

Your second point has some merit, that some folks don't want to fill out paperwork... I guess it depends on WHY they don't want to... or can't.

Supply and Demand. Its how the rich became rich and stay that way. Buy low and sell high. I still wished I had bought those four extra cases of 9mm a few month back for $143 a case. But, I didn't because I thought it was too high since it just went up $20 a case. Where was my cystal ball. Still smacking my self. Can only hope Trump gets re-elected and prices go back to normal. Maybe even all the crazy liberals move to California and it breaks away from the mainland. OK, Ok the last is a dream, but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
