Anyone else been burned by "Hogleg Smith"?

I think there's a lesson to be learned.

I wouldn't take my Hummer H3 to a Mercedes specialist, and one probably shouldn't take a brand new semi-automatic handgun to what sounds like a revolver/cowboy action specialist. Now, of course, the guy should have told you he couldn't do the work right or outsourced it to another smith, but everyone needs to do their due diligence. Always receive quotes and receipts in person before having work performed and stipulate in the contract that you should be contacted if something else needs to be done aka a price increase.

When SIG finishes the repairs, I'd personally file a small claims case and try to recoup my money since he is responsible for the damage. Would be even better if you can get SIG to supply you with a written letter stating that.

This ^^^^.

Small claims and BBB if he's a member. You may call him and give him a copy of the letter you get Sig to write, then allow him the chance to do the right thing, prefaced by "if you don't. I will take your "JACKleg" ass to court".

You'll spend more than $375 in legal fees if you take him to court. Chalk it up to "sometimes you're the hammer..." and move on.

Youve made your point.

Nah, not in small claims. You just present your case to the judge yourself. Shouldn't cost any more than $50-$75 and an hour or two of time, if that much and that long.

Unless you lose.

Life's a gamble.

That's why there are smiths that specialize in Sigs, CZs, 1911s, etc. I'm not trusting anyone with a gun unless they know it in and out. Especially some old bubba who has earned the "hogleg" moniker.
