I know they're not, but AKs are know to run but not necessarily be accurate. I've personally never owned or fired one, at all. I don't know the difference be AK47 and AK74?

Plenty of sound advice here. My vote is a wasr, ideally the older 10/63 if you can find one. Mine is currently my last standing akm and I have no complaints.

I think of a semi AK-47 /AKM as a
"more powerful substitute for" a U.S.G.I. M1.30 carbine. A compact, handy gun that's much deadlier than a pistol with 5X the effective range. But not easy to scope, not accurate enough to justify any type of magnifying scope,
and probably not necessary to worry about putting optics on.
