Self-defense against Florida panthers

Heard some locals talk about big cats in the Elberton area. Apparently there are a lot in South Carolina. Guess they migrated from Florida. Ben to Richard Russell State Park and the Anderson area and now I'm wondering if I should carry protection against these big meat eaters. Is Glock 9mm enough when camping?

I'd be more concerned about a wild hog than a cougar. My woods gun is a G29 stoked with Underwood 180 grs.

A 9mm would suffice I'd believe for a big NORTH AMERICAN cat.

9mm will take down a big cat. That said if one were going to attack you chances are you wouldn't know it was coming until it was on you.
Exactly, rarely do you happen on a lion, they will stalk/ follow you a while and take you down from behind by clamping down on your neck, wear a tall backpack that protects your neck and head.

As others have said 10MM would be plenty. However, I have talked to more than one person that actually lives out west and actually hunts out west. 9MM has and can easily kill big cats if required. Can google more than one success story regarding this.
