School me on .300 BO / What to do with this upper?

Same here. 5.56 in a short barrel is very unpleasant.

Does the lower make (that) much of a difference? I’ve got 2 for this upper: a BCM and a PSA. Keeping 1 and ditching the other. I know BCM is generally better regarded but I’m not shooting long range comps with this or anything. Whichever I keep I’m going to have a qualified armorer check it out before I shoot.

If the lower is out of spec - yes, it matters. From function to longevity. PSA takes shortcuts and don't follow milspec in some certain areas, not to mention poor QC in general. I'd keep the bcm, sell the PSA. the price difference between the two isn't much. Keep the generally better quality piece.
