School me on .300 BO / What to do with this upper?

Recovering from knee surgery and sitting in my chair hours on end. I got bored and bought a 10.5“ 300 upper. I don’t own and don’t plan on buying a can for it. Have a couple of lowers so I could tun into an SBR or switch to a braced lower .

Is a .300 10.5 un-suppressed a dumb ass idea? Too loud/too firebally? Should I just return and get a .223 for an SBR? I need ideas and have no real clue what I’m doing, I just like the idea of .30 caliber holes.

I have had the itch for 300bo, but the price of ammo scares me away. I too am interested in what the odt has to say.

unsuppressed 300BO SUPERSONIC is more expensive than 556 but packs more energy as it's designed to use all it's powder. Much more pleasant to shoot and has good energy.

If that's something you want/need, go for it. If not sell it and shoot 22lr.

300 blk in my opinion does nothing better than other caliber options outside of suppressed use where it then takes the cake and shines

Ballistically, 300BK unsuppressed is like shooting an AK47 unsuppressed. Similar bullet weight, similar powders and charge. 10.5 barrel is no problem - you can expect that a standard commercial load will have burned almost all of the powder before the bullet makes it to the muzzle.

Plinking 300 is about 50 cents a round while 7.62 is about 43 cents so you are paying a premium for 300 at the moment.

If you reload, a 110 gr pill can be pushed to 2400 fps out of that barrel. It might be a useful tool in the coming times. A 10.5 inch 5.56 will be like shooting a really loud 22 mag velocity wise.

I don’t reload currently and don’t want to go down that rabbit hole.

6.5 or 6.8 caliber holes may make more sense depending in your purpose. What is your purpose?

I was going to add that if you reload, 300BLK is a really interesting round to futz around with, and unlike 7.62x39 (if you consider it a comparable caliber) , when you buy that ammo, the brass is reloadable.
