I think the population is just more wound up than in the past. We get fed all this crap, mostly bad, from the news and government and people are just generally less happy. Cops are unhappy... people interacting with cops are unhappy and that leads to a hostile confrontation in some cases that problem escalated from grumpy citizen giving grumpy cop some lip or grumpy cop being initially rude to grumpy citizen.


I mean, in both cases any of the parties could have literally just opened a thread about flippers and gotten pissed off and then poof... shoot out with the man.

Someone once said that there is nothing new under the sun. Anyone who thinks that bad cops are either new or even more numerous as a percentage is either intentionally forgetting history or really is ignorant. Cops exercise power. ..period. throughout history men with power have had to choose whether they would wield power justly or unjustly.

There are three circumstances that significantly impact the perception of how this power is being abused today:
1. Technology - as with so many other things today, the light of instant visibility shines and spreads the event across the country making every instance immediate and personal.

2. Proximity - it's happening NOW. Bonnie and Clyde were indeed deadly criminals but they were shot down like rabid dogs without warning. Where are our current crop of cop haters threads decrying police brutality? Nothing new under the sun.

3. Political pussification of many people (still nothing new, just still disgusting) - there are so many people in this country who identify with the criminals more than they do with the good and decent people who try to live with respect and decency. Here's a tip. ..if you find you are in agreement with criminals. ..re-evaluate your decision making paradigm. If liberal whiney ass twaddle makes sense to you. ..realign your morals. If you think that more understanding of why criminals are scumbags will make them all nice and cuddly. ..get a clue. And if you can't figure out that MOST cops are good people putting their lives in danger protecting you and your family from wolves then there is one other little saying you might not know but should. ..

All law enforcement is covered with a broad blanket because of the questionable actions of just a few. If anyone thinks that there are more "rogue" police officers today than there were years ago, then you are sadly mistaken. Technology and media has simply brought it forward more.
