You can take it out to fit. But there is no adjustment in that piece. I would take it out and see if the catch goes away.... If it does then you know where you have to fit more.... If its still there then..............hmmmm... back to the drawing board...

The steel insert can not be adjusted. It looks like in your pict of the back side of it there is some loss of finish on it, which would indicate that it is rubbing. Or it could be the light....
I bet the bottom of the metal insert is hitting something on the frame. I would file it down little...
The rails on my fit great with out any input from me.... I got lucky. But you are correct, do not use lapping compound on your alum upper.... You are on the right path with the stones. I bet you will have to stone very little to get it smooth..... Advise that has always served me well when it...

You will have to trim these to length. Once you have a feel for how high your action will sit above the bedding block, you can cut to length. Also try to V notch them so they center themselves on the rounded action.
