I'm generally picky about the type of steel a knife. The good thing about a neck knife is that (for me) it's only for self defense. I keep mine sharp and don't generally use it for mundane tasks, ensuring that it's always ready for its primary job. I still prefer good steel, but a knife that won't be used for carving ir prying can be made of cheaper steel and purchased cheaper overall.
