Not a brand recommendation, but a one piece 7 foot rod ml or m with 10lb braid and 3 foot 10 or 12 lb fluoro leader should handle any bass on Lanier. Just set your drag correctly and check your knots and line often.

I fish a good bit and I really like the pflueger president spinning reels. Bass Pro and Cabelas usually run combos for $70-80. I have about 6 of them and have no complaints.

2x. Tough to find a better reel at this price point.
