Should you get training?

Sure it's in there... Right beside muskets.

I am a purest, and prescribe to the basis of timelessness. It was written for the ages to be a stalwart. Just as religion, speech, and press. No infringement. Not training, not "sporting vs. military" purely as it states well organized militia. That word militia is definitive of the arms to be carried. If the US Army carries an M16... Civilians should have them. Is a line to be drawn on limits, I say no. Do you have to go to your county probate to get a permit for your bible?
Never understood why in hades this is so hard to understand. Some gun owners are our worst enemies.
If you WANT training, great, get it, knock yourself out. It'll probably make you more comfortable and confident (hopefully not overly so). If you don't want it, that's fine too. Enjoy that remaining vestige of freedom because you can smell it in the air even here... it's dyiing. We already need a 'permit' to carry in this state, it's a pretty short step to MANDATORY government approved 'training', obviously some states already require it. :mad:
 
Most Gun owners would be better served buying a GOOD PAIR OF RUNNING SHOES and a BASIC FITNESS MANUAL before spending a dime on shooting instruction.

Other schools. Most of the top Instructors that I know are also the best students.

Once you attend a few different classes given by competent, experienced Instructors you find that the "song" is pretty much the same although the "tune" may be a little different.
Fundamentals are fundamentals but different people teach them in slightly different ways.

Other trainers....

Exactly. The best instructors out there are highly experienced individuals. Guys like Larry Vickers, Dave Harrington and Kyle Lamb come from SF backgrounds and train civilians as well as current LE & SF guys. The Rogers School, Gunsite, etc are also taught by been there, done that instructors. There are alot of "trainers" out there, so do your homework before attending a class.

I watched the finals of "Top Shot" last night. I was thinking "this isn't a shooting competition, it's a physical fitness competition". It was both I suppose but the better (in this case younger) athlete won.

Only if the Man who can a mile under 4 minutes knows NOTHING about how to fight with a gun. You can down play, like most Americans, the reality of fitness and how it relates to fighting and winning. It doesn't change the fact that all serious fighters, and by serious I mean those who have a proven record of prevailing consistently in armed combat, spend some portion of almost every day doing physical training. Fighting effectively (whether it be with a pistol, rifle, knife, club) against a skilled opponent is physical.
