What do you monitor and why? I'm setup to monitor local PD/Fire dispatch, FRS/GMRS & CB.

I find the local PD/Fire dispatch entertaining with the odd things that folks call 911 for.

How do you monitor PD? I thought that had all changed for security reasons? (Analog -> encryption)

Most are digital now, you have to have the right scanner that does whatever they're using (most are P25). SOME use encryption.

What scanner do you have?

No clue. Son's stuff. BearCat BC125AT. Said the Baofeng has an issue (but still usable).

That BearCast or a Baofeng are great for analog, but won't do the digital trunking systems. You need something that specifically list P25/APCO-25, etc.. and the version that's in use.

The one I'm using now is a Uniden HomePatrol-2
HomePatrol-2 Simple Program Scanner — Uniden America Corporation

I also have a couple Baofeng and an old RadioShack PRO-2039 for Analog stuff.

Looks cool but dang, he doesn't have ODT Admin money.

 They've went up about $50 in the last few months. Not sure if that's demand, or just the season. I actually picked mine up recently in a trade here for less than that...

There are others in the $360-450 range, but are more complicated to program (even with a computer).
