I went to adventure outdoors today...

You’d be amazed at how many people I sell a gun to that think FMJ’s are better than hollow points. I have to explain penetration and stopping power. I think if more of us, knowledgeable gun owners, took the time to work part time at our local gun stores (if it’s possible), we could help our communities more than we think. I try to explain to women, don’t just buy a gun and throw it in your purse. You shouldn’t have to protect yourself against someone you’re terrified of with something you’re terrified of, it doesn’t make sense. I think we as a whole need to do a better job of how we treat those rst time buyerwho are ignorant about guns. I’m sorry to say but there are alot who are just plain assholes and treat those with no knowledge as though they’re an idiot. Yes, theren in. really are some amazingly stupid people out there, like dumber than a screen door on a submarine but we have to use our good will and patience because we want them to learn correctly from us and not the news. There are so many who truly want to learn but have been given the most absurd and asinine info from a family member or friend and we just have to Calmly tell them that they’re family member is a slack jawed knuckle dragger who knows nothing. Just be patient with those who want to learn and those who just suck, pray for them lol.
Regarding your first sentence, if it’s a first-time buyer with a semi-auto, might be better with fmj. Don’t have to worry as much about ftf if limp-wristing or not well broken in.

Good grief. I remember Zayres from back in the 60's. Thanks.
How bout...

I remember when AO first started as a small pawn shop in Smyrna run by Jay W.
I was a pre-teen kid and my oldest brother was decent friends with him , I would see him once or twice a month at the least….most of the time weekly.
It was no bigger than a small efficiency apartment in a corner of a shopping center….but grew into the biz it is today.
It is dang sure a far cry from the original. Still an ok place as far as goods, prices, etc., although I don’t have any info on the folks employed there now or even if he is still involved.
I haven’t been through the doors in years now. No real reason to go since it has lost the “small neighborhood shop” feel that it once was. Supply and low prices can be found in various places. As far as I am concerned, they offer nothing I can’t find in most any place.
Sadly, the “Old school” - small shop feel has disappeared among just about everywhere you turn now. I wish that would come back among good gun shops. Not holding my breath about it.
(I am sure someone will be along to disagree with me or tell me how wrong I am the way things have been lately, lol)
I use to know Jay-L and when AO was under smyrna police distributors, even when they moved around the corner it was a good place to go ...But i had not been for years since I moved out of state , when i returned and say the Superstore they turned into ...You are 100 percent right it lost something in the transition ... Jay - L was a character, great owner operator and fair as long as you did not try to cheat or steal from him .

Yes !! LOL -
Do you remember when they were in Jonquil Plaza on Atlanta Rd ?
I think hat is where he first started, that is where I met him. I was just a kid hangin out with my oldest brother, going up there for him to pawn stuff or get it back when he made payments. Then I would go see him/stop in the pawn shop when I rode my bicycle up around there when I was about 13-14 yo . Lol.
Eventually I got a license when I turned 16 of course, but at 15 I had the learners permit for a motorcycle (as well as a car), to which you could not ride a passenger or ride at night. I would ride by and stop in to say hello once a week and see what he had in the cases. Jay was a cool dude to me then. He knew who I was, of course, as I was in there all the time - mostly to look at what he had for sale and to just gab/bs .

I guess that was about 1981-82??

I went to adventure outdoors today... Yes I should know better, but I did it anyway and they didn't disappoint.

Was looking at a dissipator that must have been made during the assault weapons ban. The individual trying to show me the weapon and educate me on it said " the magazine well would only accept single stack AR mags and it wouldn't be able to hold more than five rounds"
I asked if I could see one of those Daniel defense new production 30 round AR mags. I then inserted it into the dissipator and we just stood there looking at each other for a minute. I didn't have the heart to tell him he was a buffoon. I don't know why but most of the staff should be not anywhere near firearms more or less sell them.

Next I went over to the ammo section. A young man I'd seen earlier was filling out a 4473 to buy a 1924 Mosin. It was almost $500 but wasn't good condition. The gun runner who takes the weapons from the counter to the register was helping him locate ammo. I don't know whose mom is working up at adventure outdoors but the lady did not have a clue about the ammo type. She tried handing them a box of Winchester white box 7.62x51. The poor kid had no idea she was handing them the wrong stuff. I wasn't going to let this poor kid hurt himself or ruin his rifle or waste his money so I spoke up. I located a box of 54r for him. And gave the lady a look of how can you be this incompetent and what are you doing here.

I get it. No one knows it all. But holy hell it ain't that hard. The lack of knowledge, unprofessionalism, and arrogance from the staff is astounding. If you don't know the answer say you don't know. And then try and locate somebody who does have the knowledge to answer the question correctly.

It's very troubling how many people they probably screw over or hurt because of their incompetence. I was probably in the store for 20 minutes and these are the things I observed and experienced.
Too much mayonnaise at subway, cold fries at Macdonalds, if I were Krystal I’d be ordering some some bullet proof barriers.

The funny thing about this is a Big Mac in France is not called a "Royale with Cheese." I've never understand that line. Unorginally, it is simply called "Le Big Mac." :noidea:
