3" belt sander,80grit paper.
I think 80 would be a little too aggressive. Now 120 grit...
Will it fit in your media tumbler where you polish your brass cases for reloading?
Edited to add: It probably won't fit as-is, but like most people in this situation you're free to cut 2 inches off the barrel. An angle grinder with a diamond tip cutting wheel should do the trick. (people do this all the time; a lot of stuff that needs to get polished won't fit in the tumbler bin.)

Creek sand is the best thing I've found.
