Glad to see this thread. Had no clue there were this many Hams on the ODT. I have not been active for many years but plan to be when I retire in a few years. Still have my equipment but have nothing connected at this time.

I've been a HAM for a little over 4 years although the past 2 years or so I haven't even turned on a radio. I'm only a technician so no hf. I got back interested about a week ago and went this past Monday and upgraded my baofeng to an icom id51. I wanted something I could talk on dstar with inside the house. I also bought a mount and antenna so I can put my mobile in the truck. We will see where it leads and I'll probably start studying for the general test soon.

If you still have that FT-897 and are still thinking about selling it I'd be interested in talking to you about it.DE K4ZRI General here.
I have an IC-7300, Yaesu FT-897 and a TYT-9800 in my shack. I'm thinking about selling the 897, just don't use it since I got the 7300.
BTW, the freaking HF bands are just abysmal!
