Thought I would start a thread to see how many hams we might have on here. I've been inactive for the last 30 years and I just got a new 2meter rig and looking forward to getting back into the hobby as I near my retirement.

I bought a little dstar handheld and the airwaves are dead as a hammer here in town. I have used it a handful of times at most.

I agree and I'm surprised at how dead 2 meters is. I've scanned the 146-147 for the last couple of hours and haven't heard a single conversation. I'm not ready to invest in an HF rig yet, we are thinking about moving to the Biloxi/Ocean Springs area within the year.

Do you monitor 146.76? W4BOC repeater on Stone Mountain. Alford memorial radio club website has a listing of local freqs and clubs and when they are on the air.

I'm not sure I can hit stone mountain. I have listened on that freq but have not heard a peep. In the last 20 minutes I just put my vertical up in the attic and anxious to see if I can hear more sites.

I’m a technician licenced HAM and member of EARS (Ellijay Amateur Radio Society). I’m running a Yaesu FT-736R VHF/UHF in my shack and hoping to get a Patcomm HF up and running in the next couple of months.

I have the makings of a nice shack, just seems to keep going to the back burner. Mostly use a HT, BaoFeng BF-F8HP. It’s good for the local stuff and at scout camps.
