Growing up poor, what food do you eat from time to time?

deer, quail, doves ,rabbits, squirrels, and lots of fresh fish
with a bear thrown in on special occasions{ The special occasion was when My dad or uncle got lucky enough to shoot one}

We used to have a city truck drive through the projects everyday and bring us a sammich. One piece of white bread, one piece of wheat bread, slice of velvetta, slice of bologna. Got a milk and cookie in cellophane too!

I still like milk and cookies, does that count?

Don’t forget these in the gallon bucket,I hated them

Fried potato sandwiches during lean times and when my Father's paycheck was fattened by unfathomable overtime that he worked when offered, sometimes a trip to Rio Vista on Memorial Drive - all you could eat catfish, hushpuppies and french fries -

Cornbread and Buttermilk were sometimes meals - we didn't have air conditioning so in the summertime, homemade milkshakes and Ritz crackers were a respite from the heat.

There was no 24x7 news channel and if you were a Braves fan, you could watch them lose live and in rerun on the Superstation - Bill Tush made it palatable.

I recently played golf with Gary Matthews, a Braves hero from the 70's......
