Growing up poor, what food do you eat from time to time?

Not necessarily because we were that poor , but I remember my Dad bring lunch when fishing. Sardines saltines and a can of bake beans.

We had an old wooden canoe we’d use to get to certain places in the river to fish, never fished out of it , just used to get to places then we’d

Get out and wade. We’d meet back at the canoe for lunch. Also, buying ice was unheard of, we’d use the same froze jugs of water all year.

Pinto, jalapeno cornbread and homemade pepper jelly. Hard to beat. Oh, almost forgot the boiled cabbage and fried wieners.

I got 3 jars from my Father in law a couple weeks ago , GoodStuff !!

I got 3 jars from my Father in law a couple weeks ago , GoodStuff !!

I never really cared much for it growing up. But I love it now.

Sometimes my Brother and I had to take a molasses sandwich to school for lunch, but my Dad always did his best to keep food on the table. I just picked up a can of turnip greens to enjoy by myself. My Wife and Daughter won't touch them.

Man you need to find you a good soul food restaurant and get you some greens. Can greens are a poor excuse for greens. Maybe fix you a mess this weekend.
