. I have fishing gear in mine for obvious reasons , but I never see anyone showing salt in their list .

Reason for salt :

Referring to it simply, salts are necessary for the proper function of the nervous system. Action potentials are propagated by a "wave-like" reversal of the sodium/potassium balance across the axonal membrane.

Salts are also required as an electrolyte for proper muscle function.

It also works to help maintain water balance in the tissues.

I use powdered Pedialyte (or "Equate" the cheaper Wal-Mart version) for this. It comes in single serve tubes/pouches.
