Checkout time when buying a gun from Cabela's

I purchased twice from AO and it was easy an relatively fast. I try to shop during the week while most people are at work.

the times i've used to go to AO was during the week. the one time i purchased took over an hour and a half.....went back with a buddy and his took 3 hours! neither time was there much happening. i bought one from BPS once. from i'll take it to the parking lot was about 20 minutes......never bought one at cableas yet.

I've bought from AO, Bass Pro, and Wal-Mart, and never had to deal with any of the nuisance that I did today (10-15 minutes tops at any of the three previously mentioned stores). I understand being thorough in firearms transfers, but this was ridiculous...

And I do have a GWL.

All I've ever done at the large stores is laugh at the prices. From what I've seen the large store prices make every price on ODT a deal, but then I'm one of the lucky ones that live in the middle of Forsyth County Pawn, Dawson Gun and Cherokee Pawn all have prices that keep me from ever looking any other place. If I can't find what I want at one of those three, I don't need it.
OH and I've never spent more than 10 minutes from the "I'll take it" to the "see ya next time" at any of them........that is unless I go see Matt at Dawson Gun, then it's all bets are off and my wife will be calling to make sure I wasn't in an accident.
I do hate to hear about your experience though, I hope you enjoy what you got.

At one store, they gave me Guns & Ammo magazine, put me in a back room and asked for a semen sample, the new Government regs are getting creepy ...

sounds like you have never purchased a firearm from AO........your experience at cabelas sounds like a dream comparatively

I know what you mean. I've purchased at AO both from the gun counter and from the special order counter (online order -- good price on a Ruger American rifle), although it's been a couple years. A regular counter purchase generally went smoothly, but the checkout process reminds me of Wally World where getting out of the store is your biggest challenge. In contract the special order counter near the front of the store was a very smooth process, perhaps 15 minutes in total.

I bought a new handgun at Academy Sports just over a year ago and it took about 15 minutes. Got escorted to the check out register and then out the door but that was ok.
Bought a S & W 9mm M&p full size from a fine ODT member a3 weeks ago today and it took less than 3 minutes (not counting the chit chat session we had). :thumb:
