Folks who have trained to carry a firearm are trained to be situationally aware. Mindset is the most powerful tool.

Be he armed with a firearm, machete or baseball bat? What would be an effective response?

Me, first and foremost educate victims to not be victims. Awareness, risk assessment and preparedness are critical milestones in survivability.

Being unaware, not assessing risk and being unprepared will come to no good end if evil makes an appearance.
