If you have a dog or a grill that that you want to take out on the water, you probably can't on a rental. I rented one in Blue Ridge for a friend's birthday party and we couldn't have either. We had to do sandwiches and leave the pets behind. We did have plenty of beer though.

Also, draft is almost nothing with a pontoon. Perfect for rivers or lakes.

We love our sea ray bowrider. We fish, cruise, ski and tube. Room for 6 comfortably.

Pontoon on a river? Have to be a pretty big slow river.

For four people in a boat on a river fishing in that price range, I'd look at a big John Boat.

My rig is similar to the jon boat bear posted. They very versatile and are at home on most rivers and swamps. It fits all my freshwater hunting and fishing needs. From the Chatahoochee to the flooded woods of Arkansas. Its not a big reservoir or party rig. Ive owned alot of boats, and the only reason im happy when they sell, is because Im getting a better one.

I rented a ski boat for $300 about a week and a half ago and it was awesome. They gas it up put away adios.
