That thing is sitting in a hangar somewhere getting loaded with anfo. All the passengers are DRTAGSTW and some idiot is going to fly it into something. IMO

From the reports the plane went up to 45000 ft. If they shut off the oxygen mask system, and dropped the cabin pressure, that would kill all the passengers.
A lot of little islands they could have flown to with old ww2 landing strips.
Unless it crashed from running out of fuel, we will see something happen within the next year with an airliner.

Heard a good one on the radio tonight...captain got a peek at the cargo manifest and found bearer-bonds, gold, or some such incentive and went off the deep end kinda like the first Die Hard movie...

Under what circumstances would a pilot need to turn off the transponder ? Is there a reason why it is even possible to turn it off ?

transponders are manually turned on and off per each flight... could you imagine 100 planes on the ground goin beep beep beep
