Smoothie basics

We bought a book by JJ Smith called 10 Day Smoothie something. It had a bunch of different recipes revolving around the health benefits of green smoothies. Mango/pineapple with a half an orange is another good one.

Alton Brown's recipe:

  • 4 fluid ounces plain, low-fat soy milk for protein
  • 4 fluid ounces acai, grape, or pomegranate juice for antioxidants
  • 4 ounces frozen banana for texture and potassium
  • 4 ounces frozen strawberries for texture and flavor
  • 4 ounces frozen blueberries for antioxidants
Add a scoop of protein powder.

He had a recipe we used years ago as a meal replacement but can't find it on the interwebs. The key is to use frozen fruit instead of ice.

All sounds good except for the soy…soy is like nuclear waste to a mans testosterone

I see powders and such mentioned several times. I am curious if the powders are to provide needed protein or if there are other reasons. I will only consume one or so of these a day, at this point and will be eating a regular meal for lunch and dinner. Of course if I get to liking them it may evolve to multiple meals especially when its hot outside.
