Project SRDelta

I am in no way trying to say what you should do, but I will tell you that John Harrison fit my Bar Sto 40 barrel to my Delta. While he had the gun we talked about the 10mm barrel. Later I sent it to The Action Works in AZ -- Don Williams-- for the total rebuild and custom work. These guys are as good as anyone in the world's history when it comes to the 1911 and both believed the unramped barrel was the way to go for the 10mm. They both cautioned me about shooting heavy 40's out of the unramped barrel, and why would I when I have the 10mm barrel.

My personal thoughts are: If a 10mm load is too hot for a standard barrel, it is too hot for the standard 1911 frame, unless you use a compensator.

The 10mm ( as well as 9x23) brass is beefed up to be safe in standard 1911 barrels.in a 1911

OK JW what should I do with this ... You know the history. Give me an opinion. I am not any competition shooter. It may be carried occasionally. I had a smith look it over and he felt it was a safe , reliable firearm. But the finish... I'm unsure of it's durability....
One thing I do know it is NOT stainless and it is one of the first 1000 made (DE 02729 they started at DE02001)

I do value opinions ......... No need to be gentle I can take it

I'd get it matte hard chromed. Polished black chrome would look badass too.

I got it back from Brian Friday afternoon. He told me that every single component required custom fitting, with the exception of the firing pin. The quick-and-dirty list of work is as follows:

  • Install customer-provided parts (all Ed Brown "Hardcore" barstock parts, as available. Wood grips with inlaid Delta emblem were bought elsewhere online.)
  • Dehorn entire pistol
  • Refinished matte
  • Novak cuts on slide for Trijicon fixed night sights
  • Trigger pull tuned to 3lbs

As an added bonus, he noted my oversight regarding the Series 80 parts and took the liberty of providing and installing a Cylinder & Slide Series 80 Titanium Nitride Trigger Pull Reduction Kit at no extra charge.

This pistol is now completely free of ill-fitting, cheap MIM parts. :thumb:
