I am in no way trying to say what you should do, but I will tell you that John Harrison fit my Bar Sto 40 barrel to my Delta. While he had the gun we talked about the 10mm barrel. Later I sent it to The Action Works in AZ -- Don Williams-- for the total rebuild and custom work. These guys are as good as anyone in the world's history when it comes to the 1911 and both believed the unramped barrel was the way to go for the 10mm. They both cautioned me about shooting heavy 40's out of the unramped barrel, and why would I when I have the 10mm barrel.
My personal thoughts are: If a 10mm load is too hot for a standard barrel, it is too hot for the standard 1911 frame, unless you use a compensator.
The 10mm ( as well as 9x23) brass is beefed up to be safe in standard 1911 barrels.in a 1911
