Philip Seymour Hoffman dead.....OD

What gets me is how people elevate these celebrities, that their wealth and popularity makes them more knowledgeable and analytic than anyone else. That celebrities can influence and groom public opinion, and thereby the future, just by opening their mouth. But as the saying goes "might equals right".
And how for some BIZARRE reasons their demise by their own choices is somehow 'tragic' and more so than any other junkie's death.
How many reading this thread has ever heard the name Edward Balli? No one? Me either. http://projects.militarytimes.com/valor/

Death does not make a person famous, nor does it stop them from being so.

Not even remotely.

Then I can't figure out why you are so bent out of shape about people considering the death of a famous actor that many thought had been very skilled at his job to be tragic. Though he made poor choices, he did nothing that deserved a young death. Are you truly so holier than thou that you disapprove of people looking at this situation and saying "Man, that's f'd up."?
