Most small airports have a bead blaster and lots of gun friendly mechanics. You might be able to get some aluminum to make padded jaws for your vise, as well.

I actually have some cork and rubber pads that I use to protect finishes and whatnot. The case hardened items like the trigger and hammer were plenty safe.

I like the idea of aluminum though. I might scrounge around and look for some scrap blocks.
