What do you guys like?
Something a neophyte can handle.

Not a whetstone honed by the ancients.
Not one of those multi stone angle rod gizmos either.
Not one of those nuclear powered gizmos tha cost an arm and a leg either.

ODT school me on your sharpening wizzardry!

I use a couple of different methods. Either the old croc sticks or a flat stone. I have had this certain flat stone for about 30+yrs….my dad gave it to me . It’s always worked great but you have to be able to hold the angle just right.

The key is find what YOU can use and are comfortable using. Not what someone else is good at sharpening with. Everyone has different final touches on the way they feel a blade I think.

I was raised by my grandparents. Grandad was a carpenter and would sharpen everything using files and whetstones. This was before carbide tipped saw blades.I learned a lot from him and have a good size knive collection contains many types of steels. I have the Ken onion belt system but honestly I use the above more than anything. Simple enough to use and will put a pretty good edge on a knive. The time it takes just depends on the steel of the knive.

Well in this case, a diamond rod will help you a bit. Something like this, and it will cost about 30 bucks
