You don’t have to give in to everyone.... I’m getting a new dog soon also and I will be getting a purebred golden retriever from a therapy dog specialist breeder so I can take him to hospitals as a fun giving back hobby...

Also if I wasn’t doing this I’d def get a pure bred lab

We raised bassets and dachshund growing up and as a young man I breed Dobermans and Rottweilers so I'm not opposed to pedigrees and I've had dogs that I picked up at the dump. I do prefer puppies for the bonding

Check out Fur Kids. The have a lot of rescues available. Some dogs are totally free because they are "sponsored" by donors.

Get a medium-sized mixed breed female from a shelter. Great for the kids. The mixed breeding takes most of the rough edges out. One that doesn’t shed too much.

There's also no reason to breed dogs when nearly THREE MILLION are getting euthanized every year in this country. There are countless shelter dogs that are trained to be wonderful therapy dogs. What better possible outcome could there be?

Yes, if you have some very specialized need, bloodline can have added value. The man wants a PET for his kids. Plus saving a life might teach them a valuable lesson in the process.
