Take the kids to the humane society. Who knows, they might find the dog of their dreams and you could save a life. It’s a win win. If you’re a vet and live in Gwinnett co. then the adoptions free.
Just get your butt down to the shelter.
Please get a dog from a shelter. Since you're in North GA, send me a PM and I can set you up with some good dog rescue outfits and hopefully get you that special pup for your kids. My Wife works as a board member with several outfits and they can give you details on the dogs in many cases. If I can help you find the right one, I'll pay for any adoption fees!
I vote for the shelter...a saved dog will be the friend your kids will ever have

To echo what everyone else has said here a rescue is the way to go. My husky shepherd mix was a rescue and looks after our house and kids while still cuddling and playing like a best friend. My Sheltie that the inlaws gave my wife as a gift many years ago as a young puppy from a breeder is a great dog, but he’s entitled lol and not as willing to deal with the young kids all over him. The rescue appreciates his life and I swear I will never use a breeder again always rescue.
