Thought you fellow fisherman may enjoy this video I shot of handline fishing off of Palmyra Atoll. Palmyra is 1000 miles (give or take 50-60 miles) south of Honolulu and only 6 degree off the equator.

The company I fly for takes people (mostly biologist and donors) down to Palmyra to help the restoration and research efforts. We had a morning off before departing back to Hono and I was able to go out with the guys to try and get some Ono and Ahi.

This is a video of catching a 28lbs Ono. The reason for the handline is due to the massive shark population (black tip and grey reef) of the area. If you cast with a rod and reel you get too far away from the boat and only retrieve a head. When we got this guy in we saw 3 black tips already following him to the boat.

Anyway, Enjoy!
