A friend stated his Thompson in .308 would open. Huh? The bolt will not open once fired. I confirmed. Fed a cleaning rod through the muzzle and with three taps the bolt let go. Spent brass head stamp covered with wet rust. I’m thinking that once it fired the brass expanded to the rough rusted barrel making it hard to remove or pull the bolt back. Does anyone know?
But oh the rust. On the bolt face and inside the barrel. Has any one tried CLR with patches to remove rust? see picture

I agree with spinning a chamber brush on the end of a cleaning rod section using a cordless drill. Personally I would dip it in auto body polishing compound or some other mild abrasive.
