6.8 vs. 300 Blackout

under 100 yds the 300 blk wins hands down. 308 ar's will give you better ballistics but they are much larger than a 5.56(300 blk platform).

you can buy surplus 308 ammo but it still is not cheap. you can buy 300 blk ammo for about 16$ for 20 rnds of decent ammo to included sub sonic so its not more expensive than regular 308 ammo.

6.8 has better long range ballistics but thats it. 6.8 requires more gun parts with different magazines and has much less factory support than the 300blk to included ammo.

Im doing a short barrled 300blk build myself with a suppressor.

pro and cons have pretty much been outlined here.. the 300 is basically a 7.62X39 AK round that will feed in an AR.. so it will shoot beyond 100 yards...
:D

ammo prices are going to drop as the cartridge is very popular right now. just try and find a barrel that isn't $400... they are all out of stock till next month(hopefully).

I'm building one....on a new Frontier Armory LW15 lower(poly) that I just got.

I have read everything I can get my hands on about both. Personally, I am going with the 300 when funds permit. Like jglenn said above, 300 is close to 7.62x39 and people have been saying 7.62x39 is a 100-150 yard cartridge for years... they are wrong. Go to warriortalk forums and read what Gabe Suarez has to say about the effective range of the 7.62x39.

its not that the round isnt effective it just drops like a rock after about 200 yrds. the rifle more of lobs it out.
