My shortest effective 5.56 vs my shortest effective 300 blk.

You could get a little closer to size with something like an 11.5” MCX but it’s still not quite there.

I don't have anything midget size in 5.56......I would like something midget size in 5.56

It is now looking like a 5.56 midget size is not a good option :noidea: lol

Apples to apples out of a short platform, definitely not.

But like you said, if you want it just to have it. The "why" doesn't matter. More power to ya.

Practical use, not so much. 5.56 out of a 10.5 has been proven to still be capable even out to distances once thought to be unrealistic. Terminal performance is handicapped significantly, though. This can be mitigated with heaver projectiles like the 77g OTM. But for the distances typical with a "PDW" I'd want to terminal ballistics of the .300 any day of the week.

I'd only recommend a short 5.56 to someone who could only choose one rifle that they needed to be short, but still widely capable in a variety of situations/needs.

Hell yeah! Thanks for the break down

ReganR6 ReganR6 and anyone else, I'm happy to let anyone shoot the rattler and see if they like it. It's 6 pounds, and not amazingly cheap to feed, but the damn thing works and slings a lot of hate for a 16" overall length folded. I keep it for HD, travel, and pretty much would be my go-to for anything shy of night ops or the actual end of days, but I'm not super worried about it.

300 was designed to burn up in a short barrel. 556 was not. Anything shorter than about 11.5" makes a hell of a fireball/concussion and drops the speed of 5.56 down to the point where it's a lot like a 22 mag ballistically. Fine if that's what you're after, but that's not for me.

Rattlers compared to 14.5” sbr, 12” 870, and regular pistols

That makes sense. I appreciate the feedback

market today. only thing i don't really like is the proprietary buffer system and the way it goes together. BUT, it is a killer little package with the Panda suppressor.

I paid ~$2k before stamp for the HB. would buy again at that price.
That proprietary buffer system is a PITD

No one gonna mention the MDRx/WLVRN? Slap the micron kit on it and it's p90 length with 556 and 300 blk switch barrels. Ot just keep the 16" barrels and be the same length as a 11.5" AR
I still want to do I micron in 300blk, or, Oh Daddy, 8.6 blk. But, I know I'm too lazy to actually swap anything back and forth, reset zero, etc. Easier to buy another
