Is anyone else playing around with this cartridge? So far I’ve been getting decent velocities and groups but I’m curious what others are getting.

So far I’ve tried:

Bullets: 55vmax, 50grn Barnes VG and 75eldm.

Powder: cfe223, n133 and staballmatch

Eventually I’ll probably try some 80s and the 62eld vt once they’re more plentiful.

Gasser at the moment. I think it would be awesome in a mini action too though. I’ll get a picture of it later today, it’s a Frankenbuild with a 22” rainier ultra match barrel.

So far I’ve taken the 50grn Barnes to 3550fps without pressure signs (pre data release). Ended up dropping back down to 3250fps for comfort though. The 75eldm were 3063fps with cfe223 and 2809fps with staball match.

Shot a 10rnd group @120yrds. The low impact was the first round out of the freshly cleaned barrel and I know for a fact the high one was me. The load was 28.0grns of staball match with a 75eldm.

Brass is on its 5th firing and seems to be doing fine. I’ll load up 10 with 28.5grns of staball match (28.6 is max) to see if the SDs tighten up. If not I’ll drop it to 27.5 and see what happens.

Tried running slightly shorter COL seating depth. I had issues with groups growing as the barrel heated up….then realized my can wasn’t tight enough.

These are both with staball match. One is the 75eldm and the last two pictures are Barnes 50grn varmint grenade.

I know I can get more velocity with the 50grn but it’s comfortable. The only issue I’m having with the Barnes is feeding from the mag. I’ve mainly been using them on squirrels and chipmunks though. And I hit a golf ball at 200yrds after and called it a day

Found a box of 88eld match, so far I think my barrel prefers lighter bullets. Tried 26.0, 25.5 and 25.0 of staball match and I don’t think the velocity is high enough. First is a 10rnd group with 26.0 which is max for a gas gun. Second is the 25.5, I fired 5, then 7 using the same poa.

I loaded up a few more with Hodgdons max of 26.5….thats a little higher than hornady’s. I tried a shorter seating depth on a few without a change. I loaded up the last 15 for deer/hogs.

So far the 55vmax, 50grn Barnes VG and 75elds have done pretty well. I’ll see if I can find some 73elds, 62eld vt and maybe 80s.

So far the starline brass has been loaded 7times and looks fine. The nosler brass just looks ok.

3550 is 22-250 velocities!

Shhh, no one wants to say that. Lol

Realistically they’re probably pretty close in the same length barrel IF: same length barrel, same bullet and use published data. I know some guys push it and have chronographed their loads. A lot use book data for a 26” barrel, add a grain over max and guess. My uncle was one of them.

For guys complaining about brass, I haven’t seen 22-250 brass in a long time. The 22arc can use 6.5 Grendel brass and fireformed 6arc, 22ppc, 6ppc, 7.62x39 and 220russian brass.
