What is this?

I have been a WW2 buff for many years and gun enthusiast for over 50 years, but I have not seen this weapon.

This image was posted on a different reflector about the Navaho Code talkers.

It seems like a hybrid M1 paratrooper carbine but it looks like it has a 9mm style magazine. The wood stock doesn’t look like something I have seen before.

BTW... it's 45ACP only firing from a closed bolt with the charging handle in a small narrow slot in the bottom of the stock. Biggest problem with them was the 20 round mags .
