Got a world war 2 98 in 8 mm with the markings in picture on receiver?

I could not tell if it is a short or long rifle. The long "Turkish mausers" are WW1 G98s with replacement barrels from that arsenal and a mixed bag of original mauser parts. The old 98s have been passed around the world and back, a nice piece of history you have there.

The handguard indicates a short rifle (24" barrel). The receiver date is 1943, so WW1 is not likely. In all probability it's the VZ-98/22 pattern. Kirikkale did convert a bunch of G88, G98 and VZ98/22 rifles to the 7.9 Mauser cartridge in the 1930s up to about 1950.
