14 to 1 compression is going to create a ton of heat, Cooling will be a big factor
Not an option? No, just not highly publicized. Step father worked for an airline, I have friends that work for Delta. I have pilot friends. There's a lot more failures out there, it just doesn't come to light.

At first glance the design doesn't appear to be efficient. The energy from the cylinders has to be directed 90 degrees to rotate the crank, so I would expect a substantial power loss and a good deal of internal wear. I wold imagine that rebuilds wold be required fairly often.

Looks like the slightest part failure would cause a complete catastrophic failure of the entire engine.
