US Service Rifle 1903 - 1903A3 Discussion/ Pic Thread....

I'm loving my 03a3, thanks to alleycat alleycat

Fired the 1st shot and thought I was holding it wrong...nope, kicks like a mule and extremely accurate.

Other than having one for the collection (non-shooter), I'm not really into the 1903. Metallurgy issues and reduced loads don't really catch my interest.

My high number 1903 shoots HXP M2 ammo with no problems.

Got my dad's 03A3.
It's a Smith Corona.
Dad bought surplus at Parris Island, probably in the late 50's.

Loaned him my RI 1911 GI.

Haven't shot it yet.
Gotta put a rear sight on it.
Gramps used hunting with a scope.

palmettomoon palmettomoon -- Thought i was the only one anal enough to keep the box and paper wrap -
NRA sales about 1959 $17.50 plus shipping to the door -- about $21 total i think - Smith corona 4 groove --
Since I have two, a $40+ investment is now about $1400 -- not a bad a roi --

In about 1948 the neighbor got a 1917 from the nra classed as un-serviceable for about $5 and shipping.
It was in perfect condition --
