I was trying to do the work without the correct tools and I screwed up my upper. I put it in a vice a little too tight now the bolt will not slide thru. Any way for me to fix this? Gun smith says it will be 2 weeks. I really wanted to go hunting this weekend. Is the upper trashed now?

I put it up and down in the vice with rubber and a few shop towels around it. The vice was on each side of the upper where the front of the mag would slide in.

Yeah, you squeezed it to much. Best bet to open it up would be to take a wooden dowell that is slightly over sized from a bolt carrier and drive it in to open it back up.

When you don't have the proper vise block to hold an upper, take and rotate it so the vice grabs on the rail of the upper and where the Lugs are...ive got a couple of hardwood pieces that have holes drilled in them for the lugs to sit into do I can clamp it in a vise.
