As far as I know, Glock started shipping their pistols with 3 magazines about a year or so into production of the Gen 4's, by 2012 or so...
Looking at the ads here on ODT, 80%+ seem to come with only 2 mags.
I have even bought a couple like that, and it says 3 mags on the glock box.

Where are all these 3rd magazines going?

My 3rd mag goes into a 50cal ammo can marked Glock mags, working on filling up can #2 now.

Though, as others have mentioned, some dealers remove the 3nd mag to retail sell in the store.
