Will solar set us up for an EMP strike nightmare?

Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels, battery banks, and all other components of an off-grid solar power system would not be affected by an EMP directly as they have no circuitry within. However, an EMP might damage the connecting wires through which the current flows, inverters, and such. There's E1, E2, and E3 level EMPs. Depending on the strength of the EMP, most solar panels would likely not be affected.

For an EMP of sufficient magnitude to destroy the U.S. energy grid, we're talking at least intercontinental ballistic missiles and nukes. If we ever reached that point, we’d be in thermonuclear war.

yup, the grid will be the least of out worries. ramen on the Coleman time.

Almost all solar panels incorporate blocking diodes in the panels themselves. The charge controllers also contain electric circuitry and electronic components that would be susceptible to EMP.
