ask inspector to show Code section pertaining to the lintel/header
this may pizz him off and he will from then on be an azz
I'm wondering if this inspector is a county inspector or one hired by the homeowner or connected with the sale of the home. Private home inspectors are notorious for idiotic 'fault' findings. It's like they feel they need to identify something bad to justify their fees.

Example. My daughter recently sold her home she got in her divorce as settlement. It went up on the market and 12 hours later there was a contract. The buyers had TWO inspection services come in an gin up their punch list, and then they started with their 'demands.' $5000 off or paying more in closing costs, etc.

But based on the quick reaction of the buyers on it going on sale, she stuck to her guns and held firm and eventually limited the reduction to about $1250. The buyer's wife wanted the home so badly they finally accepted. The inspections cost them more than the $1250. Daughter walked away with over $400K profit from the home.
