I am a pretty decent DIYer. I like to do as much as reasonable myself.

I am looking for a good scan tool for general stuff-like reading all the modules, resetting a few things here and there, and maybe even up to reflashing modules.....

I'm confused about what gives the most bang for the buck. Seems to be a vast variety of scan tools available, and I'm confused.

Is there a good DIY scan tool that will provide good capability for under or around $500? What would be the best for capability relative to price?

The difference in the prices are the type of modules it will support.
I have an INNOVA model which does engine, antilock brake, airbag, and transmission codes.
It can do emissions status, oil light reset and battery system check.
It has most of what the average DIY will use.

I have an OBD Link MX+ that I use with my iPhone. It's bluetooth and is about $100. I just used a Forscan Program with it to repair my 7.3 Diesel Excursion. I'm sure there are other programs for different vehicles on the net.

I have a blue driver.

It is OK.

But it won’t see a bunch of stuff like body modules and transmission codes and all.

The ABS and other resets are beyond its capability as well.

I’m leaning toward this thing: It looks like a lot of bang for the buck:

Or I may try to find a Launch scan tool with similar capabilities.

This D7 one has free updates for 3 years, and then updates cost $99 per year

Launch comes with lifetime updates
