Recently, we had the N.C. governor calling for suspension of congressional elections for two years to "straighten out the country's economy" "without having to worry about reelection consequences". She later said she was joking.

We've got the "Occupy Wall Street" people who are socialists at best getting positive coverage for wanting to destroy capitalism and redistribute wealth.
Now, Jesse Jr. is going so far as to suggest the federal government give "all 15 million unemployed $40k per year government jobs; bail out all the states; bail out all the cities".

We've got the president himself saying that he's going to around congress to distribute money for his "jobs bill".

This is not a political rant, although I could go on a bender. My point here is that we have a huge amount of civil unrest just simmering...I mean really, really take a look around.

Even an uneducated man can look up at the sky and see that dark menacing clouds on the horizon means that a storm is coming.

Prepare as well as you can possibly afford to prepare. If that means 200rds of ammo and 100lbs of rice, then guess what? You're 200rds and 100lbs of rice ahead of what you would have been.

Uh oh, ole' Billrube thinks the sky is falling, some of you may think.
Consider this:
These people that I listed in the top of the post were elected BY VOTERS IN THEIR STATES. That, friends and neighbors is some notable and scary s**t.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Recently the protesters in CA stated that this could not be a bloodless revolution. The moron went on to compare India and the Ghandi revolution with the French revolution. Stating that the French revolution was the more successful one. While I am not a math major, I would still be willing to lay odds on the Tea Party vs. the Flea Party. But, to the OP's original point, it never hurts to stock up a bit, when you can.

The military/banking complex won't let this fly. It's bad for their profitability and plans for a one world order :p . We'll see how those protesters feel after a few token promises are made to settle them down and they vacate. The real fun begins when the unemployment numbers keep going up, jobs continue to go overseas or be automated out of existance and our currency continues to be devalued. You have some time to prepare yet.

. Tea party vrs the flea party! Hahahaha - freaking love it!

On a serious note right now is for sure time to get prepared if you're not... 100lbs of rice is like $40. Even a 10 22 with a few bricks of ammo should be affordable to just about everyone here.
