I have had the house powered by my generator for about 10 hours now. The neighborhood is still without electricity.

I was glad to have been maintaining the gen and 3 years ago installed a quick connection from gen to power panel.

I am glad I was prepared.

Mine is out as well as phone and internet. Generator keeping the freezer and fridge running.

Mine ran for about six hours until I got power restored. I did the same thing last spring. I keep stabilized ethanol free fuel on hand and fire it up every couple of months and let it run. It’s nice to be able to plug and play...especially on a budget...I didn’t want to spend the $$$ on a dedicated automatic generator with a propane tank. My 5500kw unit runs the whole house except maybe the heat. (Haven’t tried other yet)

There is nothing automatic on my connection. I keep gas stabilizer in the gas and change the gas about every 18 months or so. I change the oil, filters, and spark plug based on manufactured recommended run-times. I also run it for about 20 minutes about 3 or 4 times a year, and keep the tires pressurized. So I also have the budget friendly system. I would never be able to justify an automatic transfer switch with auto start on the generator.

I would recommend running your generator under a load when you do run it. Run a space heater or hair dryer. And not both on the same outlet
