I'm willing to bet that the fastest thing on the street back in the 50 and 60's was a T-bucket or something similar.
1500-1800lbs. with about 350-400hp.

It's a '64 Mercury Marauder with a 427. Love that fastback body style and you just don't see that many full size Mercs.

Use to bracket race a lot at Atlanta Speed Shop Dragway in the late '60s.
'66 GTO 3-2's; 4speed. Thought I was kick'n ass running low 13' teens 1/4mi in a 3500lb car.
'65 mustang stroked 289 hipo in the high 13' teens @ 2600lb. Had a buddy with a '69 Nova, L88 427 that would eat your lunch for you and hand you back the paper bag.. Nothing like listening to a big motor breathing and popping setting at the tree waiting for the go light.. chill bumps and woodys
